About CGSThe Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program was designed by Maria Montessori in 1910 and further developed by Sophia Cavaletti and Gianna Gobi in the 1950s. It is based on principles of the Montessori method, and utilizes manipulatives such as infancy narrative figures, wooden sheep and shepherd, a model altar and a model baptismal font. Older children are also given a hands-on approach to diving into the essential truths of the faith, through guided presentations and materials fitting to their capacity for deep thinking.

CGS at Holy Family Academy
Preschool through fourth grade students enter the atrium once a week to participate in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. The Atrium is a place of quiet work and prayer where children ponder scripture, liturgy, and the teaching and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. Our hope is for each child to be led to a deep, individual relationship with the Good Shepherd, who calls them by name.
